iPhone 18 Series Leaked with Smaller Dynamic Island, 2nm A20 Pro and 11% Bigger Battery

Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are launching on 9 September 2026, and thanks to Chinese regulatory filings, supply chain leaks and a luxury customiser that opened pre-orders early, almost every major specification is already out.

Here is the full picture, including what Pakistani buyers will actually get — which differs from the US model in one significant way.

Apple's biggest battery jump in years

Chinese 3C certification filings, spotted by Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station and corroborated by MacRumors and GSMArena, give the clearest picture yet.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max carries a 5,567mAh cell in eSIM-only markets — up from 5,088mAh on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, an 11% increase and the largest battery Apple has ever fitted to an iPhone.

But Pakistan will not get that figure. Apple continues to include a physical SIM tray on iPhones sold outside the United States, and the tray eats into battery space. The SIM-equipped Pro Max is rated at 5,391mAh — still a jump of 568mAh over the equivalent iPhone 17 Pro Max, and still the biggest battery in any iPhone sold here.

The smaller iPhone 18 Pro barely moves. It goes from 3,988mAh to 4,056mAh in SIM markets — under a 2% gain. Apple is deliberately widening the gap between its two Pro models, giving buyers a real reason to pay for the larger one beyond screen size.

3C filings are binding regulatory documents rather than supply chain chatter, which makes them the most dependable pre-launch battery source available. Apple never publishes capacity figures officially.

A20 Pro: Apple's first 2nm chip

The iPhone 18 Pro models run the A20 Pro, built on TSMC's first-generation 2nm process — a full node ahead of the 3nm A19 Pro.

Apple is also switching to wafer-level multi-chip module packaging, which places components closer together to cut latency and reduce power draw. Combined with the 2nm shift and the bigger cell, battery life should be the headline improvement of this generation rather than raw speed.

Both models carry 12GB of RAM, up from 8GB on the iPhone 17 Pro.

The camera gets a genuine first

The 48MP main Fusion camera gains a variable aperture — a mechanically adjustable opening that controls how much light reaches the sensor. Every previous iPhone has used a fixed aperture with software-simulated depth of field.

In practice this means real optical control over background blur and better handling of harsh light. How dramatic the difference will be at phone-sensor scale is the open question, but it is the first meaningful change to iPhone camera hardware in several years.

The Camera Control button is being simplified. Apple is removing touch sensitivity and haptic feedback, leaving pressure sensing only — a direct response to criticism that the button was too easy to trigger accidentally.

Smaller Dynamic Island, LTPO+ display

Apple is moving the Face ID flood illuminator beneath the screen, shrinking the Dynamic Island cutout for the first time since it was introduced.

Screen sizes stay at 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, but both switch to LTPO+ panel technology, which improves power efficiency and contributes to the battery gains.

The rear Ceramic Shield section around MagSafe moves to a frosted, seamless finish, dropping the two-tone look of the iPhone 17 Pro.

Satellite 5G

Apple's third-generation C2 modem replaces Qualcomm silicon in the Pro line and reportedly enables 5G over satellite — browsing without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.

For Pakistan this is the most interesting feature on the sheet. Coverage drops sharply outside major cities, and satellite connectivity would matter on northern routes, in Balochistan, and across rural Sindh and Punjab. Whether Apple enables the feature in Pakistan at launch is a separate question — satellite features have historically rolled out market by market.

A new N2 wireless chip handles Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread.

Colours and design

Dark Cherry is the new signature colour, a deep red with pink undertones. It joins Light Blue, Dark Gray and Silver. Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue are being discontinued.

The Pro Max is getting physically bigger. Leaker Ice Universe puts it at roughly 9mm thick and 240g — around 0.25mm thicker and 7g heavier than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. That is the trade-off for the larger cell.

No iPhone 18 this year

Apple is splitting its iPhone launches. Only the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the foldable iPhone Ultra arrive in September. The standard iPhone 18, the iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air have all been pushed to around March 2027.

For Pakistani buyers this changes the calculation completely. There is no cheaper new iPhone arriving this autumn. The realistic options in September are a Pro model at Pro pricing, or a discounted iPhone 17 as previous-generation stock clears.

iPhone Ultra (Foldable)

Apple's first foldable sits above the Pro Max with a 5.5-inch outer display opening to a 7.8-inch inner screen in a 4:3 book-style layout, a titanium frame, dual batteries and a two-lens rear camera. Analyst estimates put US pricing between $2,000 and $2,500, which would place Pakistani PTA pricing well above Rs. 1,000,000. Firm Pakistan pricing follows Apple's announcement.

Why prices are climbing

The increase is not Apple being opportunistic. A global memory shortage, driven by AI data centre buildout, has pushed NAND and DRAM costs sharply higher through 2026.

Counterpoint Research estimates the iPhone 18 Pro Max bill of materials is rising by close to $300 on the 1TB model, with NAND flash alone exceeding $250 — roughly half of what the entire iPhone 17 Pro Max cost to build.

Analysts differ on how much reaches the customer. GF Securities' Jeff Pu expects a $250–$300 increase, putting the US iPhone 18 Pro Max at $1,449–$1,499 against $1,199 today. IDC estimates around $200. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman expects $100–$200.

In Pakistan those increases arrive on top of duties and PTA registration, which is why the gap between PTA and non-PTA units stays wide — currently around Rs. 140,000 on the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Samsung and Xiaomi have already raised prices for the same reason. This is an industry-wide shift, not an Apple one.

Should you wait?

Coming from an iPhone 17 Pro: the case is thin. A chip refresh, a smaller cutout and a better camera aperture do not justify the jump, particularly at higher prices.

Coming from an iPhone 14 or 15 Pro: worth it. Two chip generations, a substantially larger battery, a much better display and satellite connectivity add up.

On a tighter budget: iPhone 17 stock typically softens in price through October as retailers clear inventory. With no standard iPhone 18 arriving until spring 2027, that is the value play this year.
