Apple iPhone Air 2 Coming Soon

The iPhone Air 2 is the successor to Apple's ultra-thin iPhone Air. It is expected in spring 2027, alongside the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e. It is not part of the 9 September 2026 event, which covers the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the foldable iPhone.

Apple has not confirmed the name. Most reporting calls it the iPhone Air 2 rather than "iPhone 18 Air."

The Air 2 is aimed at fixing the two complaints that held back the original: a single rear camera at a $999 price, and a 3,149 mAh battery that struggled through a full day. Reports indicate Apple is addressing both.

One thing to know before anything else: the iPhone Air has no physical SIM slot. It is eSIM only, everywhere in the world. This is the single most important detail for buyers in Pakistan and is covered in detail below.

Apple has announced nothing. All specifications below come from supply chain reports and analyst notes.

Price in Pakistan

• 12GB + 256GB — Rs. 470,000 to Rs. 490,000 (estimated, PTA-approved)

US pricing is expected to stay at $999 or rise to $1,099 if the second camera pushes component costs up. That positions the Air 2 between the standard iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18 Pro in Pakistan.

The phone is not PTA approved. Approval happens after units reach Pakistan and are registered.

Display

Around 6.5 to 6.55 inches LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED. The current Air uses a 6.5-inch panel and one leak points to 6.55 inches for the successor. Either way, it sits between the iPhone 18 and the Pro Max in size.

Resolution is expected to stay at 1260 x 2736, roughly 460 ppi. ProMotion scales from 1Hz to 120Hz. Peak brightness is 3,000 nits on the current model with HDR10 and Dolby Vision support.

A slightly smaller Dynamic Island has been mentioned, tied to Apple rearranging TrueDepth components to make room for the second camera. This is a lower-confidence rumour than the camera and battery reports.

Processor

A next-generation 2nm Apple chip. Reports point to the A20 family, though sources disagree on whether Apple will brand it A20 or A20 Pro. The current Air uses the A19 Pro on 3nm, so this is a genuine generational step.

Vapour chamber cooling has been reported by some outlets as a way to manage heat in an ultra-thin body, but confidence on this is lower than on the other changes.

Memory & Storage

12GB RAM is expected. The current iPhone Air already ships with 12GB, so this is a carryover rather than an upgrade. It is also the amount required for Apple's most demanding on-device Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27.

Storage is expected at 256GB, 512GB and 1TB, matching the current Air.

Camera

The second rear camera is the headline change and the most consistently reported one.

Main: 48MP with sensor-shift OIS, carried over from the current Air.

Second camera: Expected to be an ultra-wide lens. This addresses the biggest complaint about the original Air. Whether it is 48MP or lower resolution is not settled — the camera's existence is far better established than its specification.

No telephoto lens has been credibly reported for this device.

Video: 4K up to 60fps with Dolby Vision HDR and Spatial Video.

Front camera: The current Air uses an 18MP square Center Stage sensor that allows landscape selfies while holding the phone upright. No specific upgrade has been reported for the Air 2, though 24MP is possible given the rest of the 2027 lineup.

Battery & Charging

Around 3,500 mAh has been reported by supply chain leaker Digital Chat Station, up from 3,149 mAh in the current Air. That is roughly an 11% increase and remains unconfirmed.

Claims of a 6,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery circulating online are false. Apple has never used silicon-carbon cells, and a cell that size cannot fit in a 5.6mm chassis.

Charging on the current Air reaches 50% in about 30 minutes with a 40W adapter. MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging at up to 20W is supported.

Software

iOS 27 out of the box. The main change is the rebuilt Siri, which Apple has confirmed runs on Google's Gemini models beneath Apple's own foundation model layer.

Connectivity — Read This Before Buying

The iPhone Air has no SIM tray. There is no physical SIM slot on any model, in any country. Activation is entirely through eSIM.

For buyers in Pakistan this means three things:

1. Your carrier must support eSIM. Jazz, Zong, Telenor and Ufone all offer it, but you need to confirm availability on your specific plan and at your local franchise.
2. You cannot move a physical SIM across from your old phone. The number has to be converted to eSIM by the carrier.
3. If you frequently swap SIMs between handsets, this phone will not suit you.

Beyond that: Apple's C2 modem is expected, replacing the C1X in the current Air. The N2 connectivity chip should bring Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. 5G, NFC and Ultra Wideband all carry over.

Design

Titanium frame with an ultra-thin profile. The current Air is 5.6mm thick and 165g, the thinnest iPhone Apple has made. Reports suggest the Air 2 focuses on usability rather than going thinner still.

Ceramic Shield 2 with anti-reflective coating on the front, rated Mohs level 5. IP68 up to 6 metres for 30 minutes.

One trade-off worth knowing: the Air uses a mono speaker, not stereo. Apple removed the second speaker to achieve the thinness. This is expected to continue.

Colours have not been reported. The current Air comes in Sky Blue, Light Gold, Cloud White and Space Black.

Buying in Pakistan

Apple operates no store in Pakistan, physical or online. Official stock comes through Mercantile, Apple's authorised distributor, and its authorised resellers. Independent importers supply everything else.

Pakistan is not a first-wave launch country. The iPhone 17 was announced on 9 September 2025 and PTA-approved stock arrived around 19 September 2025, a gap of about ten days. Expect similar timing for the Air 2 in spring 2027.

PTA registration through DIRBS is mandatory. Without it the phone loses cellular service. PTA verifies the IMEI; FBR calculates the tax at registration using that day's dollar rate. There is no fixed published table. Check dirbs.pta.gov.pk for your exact amount.

CNIC registration applies to residents. Passport registration is 15% to 25% cheaper but requires FIA-verified recent travel.

Because the phone is eSIM only, registration and carrier activation both have to be completed before it is usable at all. Buy from a seller who can handle that process with you.

Verdict

The Air 2 is a correction rather than a reinvention. The ultra-wide camera and the slightly larger battery fix what held the original back, while the design that made it interesting stays intact.

It still is not the phone for heavy camera users or anyone who needs two days of battery. And the mono speaker remains a real compromise for video and music.

For buyers in Pakistan, the eSIM-only design decides this more than any specification. If your carrier setup does not fit that, the standard iPhone 18 is the more practical choice at a lower price.
