Apple iPhone 18 Pro Review & Overview
Apple has confirmed its "Surprise and shine" event for Wednesday, 9 September 2026 at Apple Park. The iPhone 18 Pro will be announced there alongside the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple's first foldable iPhone. Pre-orders are expected around 11 to 12 September, with global retail availability from roughly 18 September.
This is Apple's new split launch. The Pro models arrive in autumn; the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 follow in spring 2027.
The two headline changes are the A20 Pro chip on TSMC's 2nm process and a variable aperture main camera, which is an iPhone first. The display, design, storage tiers and lens arrangement carry over from the iPhone 17 Pro.
Apple has confirmed the event date only. All specifications below come from supply chain reports and analyst notes.
Price in Pakistan
- 12GB + 256GB — Rs. 510,000 (PTA-approved)
- 12GB + 512GB — Rs. 600,000 to Rs. 660,000 (estimated)
- 12GB + 1TB — Rs. 690,000 to Rs. 760,000 (estimated)
Pricing reports conflict. Earlier analysis pointed to a $200 to $300 increase caused by the memory chip shortage. More recently, Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu have both indicated Apple will hold the base price flat at $1,099 and raise the higher storage tiers instead.
The phone is not PTA approved yet because it has not been released. Approval happens after units reach Pakistan and are registered.
Display
The panel carries over from the iPhone 17 Pro. Size stays at 6.3 inches, resolution at 1206 x 2622, and ProMotion scales from 1Hz to 120Hz. Peak brightness is expected to stay around 3,000 nits.
Ceramic Shield 2 with anti-reflective coating covers the front, rated Mohs level 5.
The one visible change is a smaller Dynamic Island. Apple is moving the Face ID flood illuminator beneath the display, which shrinks the cutout. This is not full under-display Face ID — the front camera stays visible, and reports confirm the full version is off the table this generation.
Processor
The A20 Pro is Apple's first chip on TSMC's 2nm node, down from 3nm on the A19 Pro. N2 is also TSMC's first process to use nanosheet gate-all-around transistors rather than FinFET.
Reports point to roughly 15% higher performance. The chip is expected to use Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module packaging, which places memory closer to the CPU and Neural Engine for higher bandwidth.
Vapour chamber cooling, introduced on the iPhone 17 Pro, is expected to carry over.
Memory & Storage
12GB RAM across all variants. Storage tiers are 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. No card slot.
The 12GB figure matters for software: it is the amount Apple's most demanding on-device Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27 require, including the customisable Siri voice and improved dictation.
Camera
The triple 48MP arrangement carries over. The improvements are in the main lens and in processing, not in new focal lengths.
Main: 48MP with variable aperture, an iPhone first. Physical blades adjust how much light reaches the sensor, giving real control over exposure and depth of field instead of software simulation. The exact aperture range has not been confirmed — different leaks quote different figures.
Periscope telephoto: 48MP with 4x optical zoom and sensor-shift OIS.
Ultra-wide: 48MP with a 120-degree field of view and PDAF.
Sony is reported to supply the sensors. LiDAR is retained for depth and AR.
Video: 4K up to 120fps with ProRes, ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2 and Dolby Vision HDR.
Front camera: Reports disagree. Jeff Pu's investor note lists 18MP for the iPhone 18 Pro series, while other reports point to 24MP. The current iPhone 17 Pro uses an 18MP square Center Stage sensor.
Battery & Charging
A leaked figure of around 4,288 mAh applies to eSIM-only models. Units with a physical SIM tray, which is what Pakistan gets, will be slightly smaller.
That is less than a 1% increase over the iPhone 17 Pro's 4,252 mAh. The battery gain on this model is minimal. Real-world improvement will come from the A20 Pro's efficiency rather than added capacity.
By comparison, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is reported to jump to between 5,391 and 5,567 mAh. The gap between the two Pro models is wider this year than usual, so battery life is a genuine reason to consider the larger model.
Charging is USB-C Power Delivery, reaching roughly 50% in 20 minutes, plus 25W MagSafe and Qi2 wireless.
Software
The iPhone 18 Pro ships with iOS 27. The main change is the rebuilt Siri, which Apple has confirmed runs on Google's Gemini models beneath Apple's own foundation model layer, with screen awareness and deeper app integration.
Connectivity
Apple's C2 modem replaces Qualcomm hardware, with mmWave 5G support. The N2 connectivity chip brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. USB-C runs at 3.2 Gen 2 speeds with DisplayPort output, which matters for transferring ProRes video files.
On satellite: Amazon has agreed to acquire Globalstar, which has powered Apple's satellite features since the iPhone 14, and Apple has signed a deal for Amazon's Leo network. The merger is not expected to close until 2027, with Amazon's expanded deployment starting in 2028. The agreement covers the existing features — Emergency SOS, Messages, Find My and Roadside Assistance. Reports of full satellite internet on this device are not supported by any Apple or Amazon statement. These features are not available in Pakistan.
Design
Apple moved the Pro line from titanium to an aluminium unibody with the iPhone 17 Pro, and that continues. Ceramic Shield front and back, with the pill-shaped camera plateau.
Leaked colours are Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Silver and Dark Gray. Dark Cherry, reportedly Pantone 6076, replaces Cosmic Orange. Apple often trims colours before production.
IP68 rating up to 6 metres for 30 minutes. Dimensions and weight have not been leaked; the iPhone 17 Pro is 206g and 8.75mm thick.
Buying in Pakistan
Apple operates no store in Pakistan, physical or online. Official stock comes through Mercantile, Apple's authorised distributor, and its authorised resellers. Independent importers supply everything else.
Pakistan is not a first-wave launch country. The iPhone 17 was announced on 9 September 2025 and PTA-approved stock arrived around 19 September 2025, a gap of about ten days. Expect similar timing.
PTA registration through DIRBS is mandatory. Without it the phone loses cellular service. PTA verifies the IMEI; FBR calculates the tax at registration using that day's dollar rate. There is no fixed published table.
CNIC registration applies to residents. Passport registration is 15% to 25% cheaper but requires FIA-verified recent travel. For scale, the iPhone 17 Pro Max costs roughly Rs. 182,000 on passport and Rs. 213,000 on CNIC; the 18 Pro will be somewhat lower. Check dirbs.pta.gov.pk for your exact amount.
Prices in Pakistan peak in the first two to three weeks after local arrival, then settle as supply improves.
Verdict
Worth buying from an iPhone 14 or older. The 2nm chip and the variable aperture camera are both real changes at that distance.
Not worth it from an iPhone 17 Pro. Same screen, same design, same RAM, same lenses, and effectively the same battery.
If battery life is your priority, look at the iPhone 18 Pro Max instead. The larger model gets the significant capacity increase this year; this one does not.
This page will be updated with confirmed specifications after Apple's announcement on 9 September, and again once PTA-approved stock reaches Pakistan.
