Apple iPhone 18 Pro

Apple officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro alongside the iPhone 18 Pro Max and the first-ever foldable iPhone Duo at its "Surprise and Shine" event on 9 September 2026. Pre-orders open on 12 September, with global retail availability from 18 September in the first wave of countries.

This year Apple split its lineup: the Pro models launch now, while the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 follow in spring 2027.

On the outside, the iPhone 18 Pro looks like a mild refresh of the iPhone 17 Pro — same 6.3-inch size, same aluminum unibody, same triple 48MP camera layout. The real changes are underneath: Apple's first 2nm chip, and a variable aperture main camera that's a genuine first for the iPhone line.

PTA-approved units cost more upfront because of the DIRBS tax, but they keep working on local networks without registration hassle and usually come with proper local warranty support. Design

• Apple keeps the aluminum unibody it introduced on the iPhone 17 Pro, with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back
• The familiar pill-shaped camera plateau carries over unchanged
• Officially confirmed colors this year: Black, Silver, Glacier (blue), and Burgundy — a genuinely new shade replacing last year's Cosmic Orange
• IP68 dust and water resistance continues, rated for up to 6 meters for 30 minutes

Display

• The panel is essentially carried over from the iPhone 17 Pro: 6.3 inches, ProMotion scaling from 1Hz to 120Hz, peak brightness around 3,000 nits
• Ceramic Shield 2 with anti-reflective coating protects the front
• The one visible change is a smaller Dynamic Island — Apple has moved part of the Face ID sensor hardware beneath the display to shrink the cutout. This isn't full under-display Face ID; the front camera is still visible

Biometrics

Face ID continues on the iPhone 18 Pro — there's no fingerprint sensor, unlike the foldable Duo, which switched to Touch ID because of its thinner chassis. The smaller Dynamic Island is a cosmetic improvement to how Face ID's hardware is packaged, not a change to how unlocking works.

Processor & Performance

• Apple A20 Pro, its first chip built on TSMC's 2nm process, moving from 3nm on the A19 Pro
• Apple describes solid gains in both raw performance and power efficiency over the A19 Pro
• Vapor chamber cooling, introduced on the iPhone 17 Pro, continues here
• This is the chip generation where the meaningful jump happens — buyers upgrading from an iPhone 15 Pro or older will feel it most

Camera

• The headline feature is a variable aperture main camera — a genuine first for any iPhone. Physical blades adjust how much light reaches the sensor, giving real optical control over exposure and depth of field instead of relying on software simulation
• The triple 48MP layout carries over: main, periscope telephoto with optical zoom, and ultra-wide
• LiDAR is retained for depth sensing and AR
• Video capabilities extend to ProRes, ProRes RAW, and Apple Log 2 for creators who shoot professionally on their phone
• The improvements this year are in the main lens and image processing, not in new focal lengths

Battery & Charging

• Battery capacity is only a marginal increase over the iPhone 17 Pro — most of the real-world improvement in battery life comes from the A20 Pro's efficiency gains rather than a bigger cell
• If battery life is your main priority, the iPhone 18 Pro Max gets a noticeably larger capacity increase this year, making the gap between the two Pro models wider than usual
• Charging is USB-C Power Delivery, alongside MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging

Software

• Ships with iOS 27, built around a rebuilt Siri. Apple has confirmed Siri now runs on a custom Google Gemini model in the cloud for its more complex, conversational requests, working alongside Apple's own on-device foundation models for privacy-sensitive tasks
• Siri gains personal context awareness, on-screen awareness, and deeper integration across apps
• A dedicated Siri app and camera-based AI features are part of the same iOS 27 push

Connectivity

• Apple's own C2 modem replaces Qualcomm hardware, with mmWave 5G support in supported markets
• Apple's N1 wireless chip brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6
• USB-C runs at 3.2 Gen 2 speeds with DisplayPort output — useful for offloading ProRes video files
• Satellite features (Emergency SOS, Messages, Find My) continue on supported hardware, but these are not available to users in Pakistan

Buying in Pakistan

Apple has no official store in Pakistan. Genuine PTA-approved stock comes through Mercantile, Apple's authorized distributor, and its authorized resellers. Everything else in the market is an independent import.

• Availability timeline. Pakistan is not a first-wave launch country. Based on last year's iPhone 17 rollout, PTA-approved stock typically reaches Pakistan around ten days after global release — so expect availability toward the end of September.
• PTA tax is mandatory. Registration through DIRBS is required or the phone loses cellular service. PTA verifies the IMEI, and FBR calculates the tax at registration using that day's dollar rate — there's no fixed published table. Check dirbs.pta.gov.pk for your exact amount before buying.
• CNIC vs Passport registration. Passport registration works out 15–25% cheaper than CNIC registration but requires FIA-verified recent international travel. Most buyers will register on CNIC.
• Prices peak early. Prices in Pakistan typically peak in the first two to three weeks after local arrival, then settle down as supply improves — worth waiting a few weeks if you're not in a rush.

Bottom Line

The iPhone 18 Pro is worth buying if you're coming from an iPhone 14 or older — the 2nm chip and the variable aperture camera are both real, meaningful changes at that distance.

It's a harder sell if you already have an iPhone 17 Pro. Same screen, same design, same RAM, same lens arrangement, and only a marginal battery gain. The variable aperture camera is the standout new feature, but it alone may not justify the upgrade cost for a one-year jump.

If battery life matters most to you, the iPhone 18 Pro Max gets the bigger capacity increase this year — this model doesn't.

Alternatives in the Same Budget

• iPhone 18 Pro Max — the better pick if battery life and screen size matter more to you than pocketability; gets a meaningfully bigger battery this year.
• iPhone 17 Pro — still current-generation performance at a lower price now that the 18 Pro has replaced it as the flagship, a solid choice if the variable aperture camera isn't essential to you.
• Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra — for buyers open to Android, comparable camera versatility and a larger display at a similar price point.
